Tehran Prosecutor: Alireza Firoozi & Soorena Hashemi Are in Evin

RAHANA Prisoners’ Rights Unit – After the Tehran prosecutor confirmed Alireza Firoozi and Soorena Hashemi are currently detained at Evin Prison, there is finally a glimmer of hope for their families who have been seeking information for the past 50 days about their disappeared sons.

RAHANA has received reports that Firoozi is being held in solitary confinement in ward 240 of Evin. The prosecutor has ordered both men be transferred to the public ward today, but it is not known whether the transfer actually took place.

Firoozi and Hashemi, both Zanjan University students, disappeared on January 2, 2010, while on a trip to Tabriz. They have not contacted their families since being abducted by government agents. Their families had been going to the Tehran Revolutionary Court and Evin Prison every day in search of information, but until today the judiciary officials had repeatedly denied that they had them in custody.
