Mehdi Motamedi-Mehr is under severe torture to make false confessions dictated by Intelligence authorities.

RAHANA – Mehdi Motamedi-Mehr , a member of the Freedom Movement of Iran (Nehzate Azadi) and the Committee for Free Elections, has been physically and psychologically tortured to make false confessions.

Motamedi-Mehr was arrested on January 3, 2010 after appearing before the investigations office of the Ministry of Intelligence. He has only contacted his family twice since his arrest 47 days ago.

It is not clear which agency has arrested Motamedi-Mehr or where is being held.

Motamedi-Mehr was once arrested in May 2009 for publishing a communiqué belonging to the Committee for Free Elections, which asked for international monitoring of the electoral process. He was released later after spending 45days in solitary confinement.

The Iranian Constitution prohibits the use of torture to extract confessions from detainees and considers such confessions to be unlawful and void. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment.

Currently a number of Nehzat Azadi members are detained incommunicado.
