Request to Visit Student Prisoner Rashid Esmaili Rejected

RAHANA – Rashid Esmaili, an expelled Allameh University student activist, was arrested on December 24, 2009. He was kept in the same cell as common convicts in Isfahan Prison.

On Thursday February 18, 2010, Esmaili’s family returned to prison hoping to visit with him, but their request was rejected once again.

According to a RAHANA reporter, Esmaili has not contacted his family in three weeks and his visitation rights have been revoked.

Reports suggest that Esmaili remains in a prison cell he shares with several drug traffickers. Two months after his arrest, judicial officials have yet to announce his charges.

Journalist and human rights activist Rashid Esmaili was expelled from Allameh University, where he was completing a master’s degree in human rights studies.
