Ward 209 Interrogator Part of Nuclear Negotiation Team

Intelligence Interrogator in Iran’s top nuclear negotiation team

Green Road Network (Jaras) - One of the interrogators in ward 209 of Evin prison (where most political prisoners are held in horrid conditions) is a member of Iran’s nuclear negotiation team.

A picture of Iran’s nuclear negotiation team has been posted on the blog, and Hamid Reza Askari, legal advisor to the Foreign Affairs Ministry and legal advisor to Iran’s Atomic Agency, is seen standing behind Ali Asghar Soltanieh (Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA).

According to the weblog, Askari works in the foreign intelligence division of the Ministry of Intelligence, under the alias Mahdavi. He was actively present in recent interrogations as an advisor to Majid Alavi (Mahmoud Ahmadinejad named Majid Alavi as acting Intelligence Minister in July 2008). Askari participated in interrogating jailed reformist figures by using various tactics. One of the ways he put prisoners under great pressure was ordering and imposing restrictions on toilet usage. Hamid Reza Askari was very vicious when it came to beating male and female prisoners.
