Mafi and Ghaznavian: More Journalists Arrested


Committee of Human Rights Reporters - Hamid Mafi, journalist and social worker, was arrested on February 9th in the city of Qazvin. According to reports, Mafi was arrested following several summons by phone. There is no information on the reason for the arrest or on his current location.

Mafi had been previously arrested on March 10, 2009 at his house.

Mafi moved to Tehran to work as the political secretary of Farhang-e Ashti Newspaper, but left the newspaper to return to Qazvin on December 19, 2008. His articles have been published in local and national newspapers including Etemad, Etemad-e Melli, and Kargozaran.

Another journalist and activist, Mohammad Ghaznavian, was also arrested on February 9th in Mellat Park, Qazvin. There are no reports on his charges and current location. Ghaznavian’s work has focused on human rights, particularly of women and children.
