HRANA - According to Fars News Agency, a number of professors from Azad University in Shahr-e-Rey (city in Tehran) gathered in front of the university’s Central Organization to protest against the illegal activities of the dean. The professors demanded that their concerns be addressed.

While approximately 50 professors gathered in front of the Central Organization building, other professors went to speak to authorities in charge of the Central Organization.

Among the issues raised by the professors were: 12 hour work days imposed on professors and department directors; the situation of salaries and benefits; expenditure of $100,000 by some directors of Azad University on refurbishing their offices; insults against war martyrs and veterans by the dean of Azad University in Shahr-e-Rey; interrogation of several female professors by the university’s protection officer, insults against professors; spying on their personal lives; interfering (as an educational institution)in political issues of the country, particularly after the presidential elections.

Azad University in Shahr Ray has about 30,000 students and 1000 professors; 300 of whom are tenured faculty and the remainder are visiting faculty.
