Clashes and violent arrests in Tehran

According to human rights and democracy activists in Iran, extensive clashes between civilian demonstrators and government anti-riot forces have broken out in central Tehran, with dozens violently detained.

At around 11:30 am, demonstrators in the central parts of Tehran (such as Sadeghiyeh Square, Enghelab Square and Kargar Street) organized a protest gathering that quickly evolved into a vast mobilization. Protesters chanted anti-government slogans and were met with brutal raids from the Revolutionary Guards Special Forces, which have been monitoring the entire city. Government forces have been using batons to violently confront demonstrators.

After these clashes, protesters undertook a different approach, with many of the youth dividing into groups of a few hundred to chant slogans and confront government forces. Many are reported to have been injured and more than twenty demonstrators were detained, including Mohsen Karam Zade Makvandi. The clashes appear to be spreading to various parts of the city.

Government forces have also forced travelers from the city of Karaj to Tehran to partake in the pro-government rallies at Arj factory while the state media cameras recorded the events.

Government forces near Azadi Square have been randomly detaining civilians deemed suspicious.
