Saeed Asghari, Saeed Hajjarian’s assailant to become Basij leader
Jaras - Saeed Asghari, who is responsible for the attempted assassination of Saeed Hajjarian (advisor to former president Mohammad Khatami’s reformist campaign), was recently appointed head of a Basij volunteer brigade in central Tehran.
In an interview with Jaras, a reliable source added that Asghari’s father had also recently become superintendent of Shahr-e-Rey (a Tehran suburb).
The then 20 year old Asghari was arrested March 2001. He was a chemical engineering student at the Islamic Azad University in South Tehran. Though convicted and sentenced to fifteen years in prison, he was released after a short time.
In May 2003, Asghari accepted the command of 250 plainclothes militiamen who attacked the Shahid Hemmat dormitories at Allameh Tabatabai University.
