RAHANA – Hengameh Shahidi was arrested again this morning after being summoned by the Ministry of Intelligence.

Shahidi had been released on [equivalent to] $90,000 (USD) bail since November 1, 2009, but authorities never stopped pressuring her.

RAHANA was told by one of Shahidi’s friends that the journalist was asked over the phone last night to appear before the investigations office of the Ministry of Intelligence to answer some questions. She was detained upon arrival and was taken to Evin Prison.

“The family has been told to go to the Revolutionary Court on Saturday and they are hoping that Hengameh will be released,” the friend added.

Shahidi’s four-month detention after the June election has had a devastating effect on her emotional condition, and her family and friends fear that returning to prison will only aggravate her mental health.

In her first trial, Shahidi was sentenced to six years and one day in prison. Her case is currently being reviewed by the Appeals Court
