CHRR Member Ali Kalaei Arrested

Ali Kalaei, Committee of Human Rights Reporters, has been arrested


Ali Kalaei, a member of the Committee of Human Rights Reporters (CHRR), was arrested on Saturday, February 7th (18th of Bahman). He had been carrying out his military service as a cadet at Imam Ali Military Academy and was arrested by the military prosecutor. Agents also searched the human rights activist’s house and seized his personal belongings. According to agents’ statements, his family should follow up on his situation through Branch No. 2 of the Military Prosecutor’s Office.

Ali Kalaei had been detained and condemned to two years of prison by an order from Branch No. 10 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court in December 2007, amid widespread arrests of leftist students. He was arrested for a second time in May 2009 and imprisoned for about two months in section 209 of Evin prison.

With the arrest of Ali Kalaei, the number of imprisoned members of the Committee of Human Rights Reporters reaches eight. Shiva Nazar Ahari, Parisa Kakaee, Koohyar Goodarzi, Mehrdad Rahimi, Saeed Kalanaki, Saeed Haeri, and Saeed Jalalifar, all members of this human rights organization, had previously been arrested by security forces.
