Journalist Bahman Ahmadi Amooyi back in a solitary cell


Bahman Ahmadi Amooyi, a journalist and economist detained in ward 350 of Evin prison been transferred to solitary confinement for the second time. Ahmadi Amooyi was arrested at his house on June 20, 2009 and spent 65 days in a solitary confinement cell in ward 209 of Evin prison.

In ward 350, all telephone access was cut off after prisoners and their families complained of the terrible living and health conditions for prisoners connected to the post-election protests. Families of prisoners wrote letters to the Tehran prosecutor complaining about the lack of proper heating, medical attention, and medicinal supplies.

Ahmadi Amooyi was sentenced to eight years in prison earlier this month for his alleged involvement with what the government calls a ‘foreign plotted velvet coup’.
