Shabnam and Farzad Madadzadeh Charged With Moharebeh


Shabnam and Farzad Madadzadeh have been sentenced to five years in prison. They have been charged with “Moharebeh” (waging war against God) and acting against national security.

RAHANA: Prisoners’ Rights Unit: Mohammad Ooliayifard, the lawyer for Shabnam and Farzad confirmed the news to RAHANA and said: “the prisoners have also been exiled to Gohardasht Prison [in Karaj].”

Ooliayifard does not regard their sentence as having any legal basis. He told RAHANA, “We will protest the sentence as soon as possible.”

The sentence was issued by judge Mohammad Moghieseh, head of branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court.

Shabnam Madadzadeh is the Political Affairs Secretary of Tarbiat Moalem University’s (Teacher’s College) Islamic Association. She was arrested on February 2, 2009 by Ministry of Intelligence agents. She was held in ward 209 of Evin Prison, where she spent three months in solitary confinement. After seven months of detention in ward 209, she was initially transferred to quarantine section for methadone addict inmates, before being sent to women’s general ward.
