Lawyer of Executed Activist Interrogated over Media Interview


Nasrin Sotoodeh, a prominent human rights lawyer was interrogated today at at a police station in Tehran.


RAHANA – According to Nasrin Sotoodeh, a prominent human rights lawyer, 10 days ago two SMS messages were received on her sister’s mobile that stated her phone service will be disconnected for two months. The SMS messages were received following Sotoodeh’s interview with foreign media organizations regarding the execution of her former client, Arash Rahmanipour.

According to the Feminist School, Sotoodeh’s sister and parents were asked to report to Narmak’s (an area in Tehran) police station. Sotoodeh and her sister visited the police station on February 16th and clarified that Sotoodeh was the only person using the disconnected mobile phone. Sotoodeh was interrogated about her foreign trips and whether any of her family members had been arrested after the [June 2009 Presidential] election.

Sotoodeh refused to answer the interrogator’s questions, claiming that there was no warrant for her interrogation. She also refused to sign any documents obligating her to report to the police station if summoned in the near future.
