Extensive Project Begins to Identify Families of the Executed

The security and intelligence units are working on an extensive project to identify and monitor the children and relatives of the people who were executed in the 1980s.

Jaras – According to Jaras, the security forces believe that one of the reasons for the continuation of the protests involves the activities of the relatives and children of those who were executed in the 1980s; especially the ones executed in 1989.

Certain security units have gathered a complete list of the occupations, social statuses, and activities of the suspected children. They have also attempted to listen in and track their internet conversations.

It is worth noting that in the past few days, some relatives of those who were executed in the 1980s have been arrested, even though it is reported that they have not been involved in any political activities.

Many Islamic Republic opposition members were executed in the 1980s.

In his diary, Ayatollah Montazeri lists the number of those executed [in the 1980s] to be somewhere between 2800 and 3800. The actual number is unknown.
