Families Gather in Front of Evin Prison


Family of political prisoners gather in front of Evin prison to commemorate Arbaeen.

Iran News Agency: By 10:00 pm, more than a thousand people had gathered by Evin prison since 7:00 pm. Demonstrators were sending prayers and chanting “Allah Akbar (God is great)”.

The demonstrators, who are are families of political prisoners, gathered to commemorate Arbaeen, the 40th day of mourning after Ashura.

Basij paramilitary forces were present to disperse the gathering. The demonstrators, however, made human chains to resist the Basij’s attempt to disperse the crowed.

Earlier in the day at 4:30pm, the families had gathered at Tehran’s Behesht Zahra Cemetery. They had reportedly decided to go to Evin Prison to “free the young people and loved ones that have been taken there.”
