Kayvan Samimi Receives Six Years in Prison and a Lifetime Ban from Political Activity

RAHANA Prisoners’ Rights – The main charges in Kayvan Samimi’s indictment were propagating against the regime and conspiring against national security. The indictment also includes charges such as participating in post-election protests and issuing statements questioning the validity of the election results. Samimi was arrested one day after the election and was in prison during the post-election events.

According to a report by Kaleme website, Samimi, who was arrested on June 13th, 2009 in his home, has been temporarily released on $100,000 bail to attend his daughter’s wedding.

Samimi was the managing director of Nameh Magazine (a publication now banned) and Kharabat website. He was a political prisoner during the previous [Shah's] regime and is currently a member of the National Peace Council, the Committee against Arbitrary Detentions, the Committee in Defense of Citizens’ Rights, and the Right to Education Council.
