Expelled Student Mohammad Yousef Rashidi Moved to Public Section of Evin Prison

RAHANA Prisoner Rights Unit – After spending 70 days in ward 209 of Evin Prison, expelled Amir Kabir University student Mohammad Yousef Rashidi was moved to public section 7, along with 40 other prisoners.

Before being moved to the public section, Rashidi went on hunger strike twice for a total of 30 days. He was hospitalized for one week outside the prison. Rashidi’s interrogations ended 40 days ago, but he is still being held without any charges.

Rashidi played an active role in the 2006 protests against Ahmadinejad’s visit to Amir Kabir University. He was given a five-semester suspension. University officials have not been able to expel him indefinitely since his marks are high.

Rashidi is an Amir Kabir naval engineering student (2006 entry). He was detained on December 7, 2009 by the university’s security office, upon entering the campus. Rashidi was handed over to the Ministry of Intelligence. Rashidi has no history of political activity and did not take part in the protests. He is being held only because he is Majid Tavakoli’s friend.
