Prominent Film Maker Jafar Panahi Arrested

Prominent film maker Jafar Panahi has been arrested by security agents along with his wife and daughter.

Prominent Iranian film maker Jafar Panahi has been arrested along with his wife Mahnaz Mohammadi, and his daughter. 15 other guests at his home were also detained and taken to an unknown location.

According to Reporters and Human Rights Activists in Iran (RAHANA), security agents raided Panahi’s house and confiscated a number of his personal belongings.

Panahi was recently forbidden from leaving Iran, when trying to attend the Berlin film festival.

Panahi was also arrested along with his wife and daughter on July 30, 2009, at a ceremony where mourners gathered to commemorate slain election protesters. He was later released.

A former assistant to Abbas Kiarostami, Jafar Panahi won the Golden Lion at the 2000 Venice Film Festival for The Circle and the Silver Bear at the 2006 Berlin Film Festival for Offside.
