The family of killed prisoner under pressure

Based on reports received by Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran, on February 25, 2010 Kermani and Faraji (Director and Vice-Director of Prison’s Intelligence) have shown up at the residence of Yavar Khodadoost’s family whose son was tortured to death in prison under their supervision. Kermani and Faraji threatened the family not to pursue the case of their son.

Faraji and Kermani told the family, “Yavar [Khodadoost] died as a result of consuming large amounts of a narcotic called glass (methamphetamine)”. Kermani continued that: “It is in your best interest to be silent on the matter, and not to pursue the case any further”. He added, “Do not talk with anyone about this [Yavar's death] under any circumstances. Remember that your other child is also in this prison”.

Meanwhile and on the same day, February 25th between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., prisoners of section 1 of Gohardasht prison held a memorial service for Yavar Khodadoost. This ceremony was attended by more than 600 prisoners.

Yavar and his brother were serving their sentence in salon 3 of section 1 of Gohardasht prison [located in Karaj, a suburb of Tehran]. They were transferred to solitary confinement of section 1, also known as the “dog house” for its inhumane conditions, after a raid on their cells by the prison guards.

On Monday, February 22nd, Yavar Khodadoost lost his life after being subject to torture under the supervision of Kermani and Faraji.

Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran condemns the murder of defenseless prisoners under brutal forms of torture, and asks the United Nations Human Rights High Commissioner to send a delegation to investigate such deaths as well as other crimes of the regime.
