Death Row Prisoner Zeinab Jalalian Transferred

RAHANA – Zeinab Jalalian was arrested two years ago for alleged links to PJAK, an armed Kurdish group. She was subsequently found guilty of moharebeh (enmity with God) and sentenced to death. The verdict was upheld in December 2009 and can be carried out at any moment.

According to Iran Green Voice, last week Jalalian was transferred from a Kermanshah correctional facility to the city’s Ministry of Intelligence detention center. In the past, Jalalian was pressured by the Ministry of Intelligence to make televised confessions. The reason for the recent transfer remains unknown.

Jalalian fled her home when she was ten after her family prevented her from attending school. She then joined the PKK which at the time was a legal organization in Iran, but was outlawed after its Iranian wing PJAK took up arms against the Islamic republic.

During her interrogations Jalalian maintained that she never took up arms and her involvement was limited to propaganda activities.
