Dorsa Sobhani Confirms Arrest in Evin


Committee of Human Rights Reporters (CHRR) - In a phone call last night, Dorsa Sobhani stated that she has been transferred to Evin prison, but did not disclose the exact location where she is being held.

Dorsa Sobhani, member of the One Million Signatures Campaign and activist for educational rights, has been banned from her studies for her belief in the Baha’i faith.

On March 8, 2010, the 20 year old civil activist was arrested during an assault on her home by 12 security agents.

On the evening of March 2, 2010, her father’s house was raided and personal belongings were confiscated. Since the incident on March 2nd, Dorsa Sobhani’s family was under pressure by the Ministry of Information to turn their daughter in.

March 2, 2010 marked a day of widespread assaults and arrests for a large number of civil and human rights activists in various cities across Iran. Navid Khanjani, Mahboubeh Karami, Behzad Mehrani, Abolfazl Abedini, Hesam Firoozi, and Nasour Naghipour are among the arrested.
