Alireza Firouzi and Soorena Hashemi Call Home

Alireza Firouzi and Soorena Hashemi’s first phone call after two months in Evin Prison

On March 7, 2010, Alireza Firouzi and Soorena Hashemi contacted their families after seventy days (of detention).

RAHANA- Alireza Firouzi and Soorena Hashemi contacted their families and informed them that they are being held in ward 209 of Evin prison. During the short phone conversations, Firouzi and Hashemi said they were in good condition and they were both optimistic that their cases would be settled soon.

The Attorney General of Tehran and other authorities at the Revolutionary Court and Evin prison had continuously denied the detention of the two activists in Evin prison. The Attorney General who had once confirmed their arrest denied it later.

During the past two months, the Firouzi and Hashemi family referred to various offices and authorities hoping to hear some news on their children, but they were left uninformed.

Also, Dr. Hesam Firouzi who was arrested last week on Tuesday, called his wife last night from Evin Prison and told her that he is well. He confirmed that he was arrested because of the material published on his blog and there were no other accusations on his file.

Alireza Firouzi and Soorena Hashemi were kidnapped by security forces in the city of Oroumiyeh on January 2, 2010, and the judiciary system had not accepted responsibility for their whereabouts until today. It is yet not clear how their two months absence is going to be explained by authorities.
