One of Nine Ashura Defendants Sentenced to Death


The Public and Revolutionary Court of Tehran announced that an Ashura detainee has been sentenced to execution.

HRANA – The Public Information Unit of the Public and Revolutionary Court of Tehran announced: “The conviction order of nine [defendants] inciting Ashura riots was issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran.”

According to HRANA, the announcement by the Public Information Unit of the Public and Revolutionary Court of Tehran stated that one of the defendants has been sentenced to death and the eight others have been sentenced to suspended imprisonment.

The announcement added: “The sessions to address the charges against the aforementioned convicts were held last week on two separate public occasions in the Revolutionary Court and in the presence of defense attorneys and the public prosecutor.

Moharebeh (war against God), gathering and collusion against national security and propaganda against the regime are among the crimes committed by the defendants.

If contested by the defendants, the issued sentences will be referred to the appellate courts of the State of Tehran in accordance with applicable procedures and will be enforceable upon affirmation.
