Jailed Activist Mehrdad Rahimi Contacts His Family


Committee of Human Rights Reporters– On Sunday January 17, Mehrdad Rahimi, a political and human rights activist [a member of CHRR] contacted his family after 16 days of arrest.

The family of the CHRR member described him being satisfied with his physical situation. The family also expressed hopes to meet with him soon. Mehrdad Rahimi mentioned that he and four other prisoners are being held in a section 209 cell.

Mehrdad Rahimi was sent to the prosecution office of the Intelligence Ministry on January 1, 2010. When he arrived, he and Parisa Kakayi were arrested. Currently, seven members of CHRR are in prison, and since there are existing pressures, their situation is not secure.

27 year old Mehrdad Rahimi holds a Masters in International Law. In the recent presidential election, he served in the central campaign headquarters for Mehdi Karoubi as a deputy for the Committee in Defense of Citizen Rights.
