CHRR Member Mehrdad Rahimi’s Status Unknown

Committee of Human Rights Reporters- 13 days after Mehrdad Rahimi’s arrest, his family, friends, and committee members did not receive any news from him.

Ali Rahimi, Mehrdad’s brother, expressed his worries regarding Mehrdad’s mental and physical health. Mehrdad’s friends also reported on his illness at the time of the arrest. He had symptoms of influenza and physical weakness during the time of his arrest.

Mehrdad’s family was hoping that after CHRR members Koohyar Goodarzi and Saeed Haeri were able to contact their families, so would Mehrdad.

A close friend of Mehrdad describes his mental health around the time of his arrest:

When contacted by the intelligence officers regarding his arrest, Mehrdad told them about his illness and requested a delay of a few days before being arrested and taken to Evin Prison. The agents replied that there is a medical facility available in the prison. Mehrdad did as he was told despite his major health problems.

Mehrdad Rahimi is 27 years old. He holds an MA in international relations. During the recent election in Iran, he was the leader of the committee for defending citizenship rights in Karoubi’s campaign.

He was arrested on January 1st when he and Parisa Kakaee (editor’s note- another arrested member of CHRR) reported to the follow-up branch of the Ministry of Intelligence.
